Loan watch – Diouf scores a hat-trick

25/08/10 10:15 PM

Starts for Diouf, King, James, Drinkwater & Welbeck

Blackburn Rovers 3 – 1 Norwich City
Mame Biram Diouf received his first start for Blackburn Rovers and immediately repaid Sam Allerdyce’s decision by putting three “poacher’s” goals past Norwich City. Allerdyce was obviously pleased with Diouf’s peformance and praised the Senegalese International in his post-match interview
:

‘Hopefully he can start scoring like that in the Premier League now.

‘He looks like a natural goalscorer because he drifts into areas that put him into the right position to score. ‘You can’t coach that instinct into someone. It is something he has developed naturally. Now he’s got the match ball and a big smile on his face.’

Video clip of Diouf’s goals:

Bradford City 1 – 2 Preston North End
Both Matty James, as well as Joshua King continued to do well for Preston and played 120 minutes for Darren Ferguson’s team in a 1-2 victory over Bradford. The game was tied at 1-1 after 90 minutes, but Preston took the lead on 108 minuted through Keith Treacy in extra time and managed to see out the rest of the game.

Peterborough United 2 – 1 Cardiff City
Danny Drinkwater started his 5th game for Cardiff, but was unable to prevent Dave Jones’ side from slipping to a 2-1 victory at Peterborough.

Sunderland 2 – 0 Colchester
Danny Welbeck started his first match for Steve Bruce in a 2-0 victory over Colchester at the Stadium of Light. Darren Bent scored a brace with Boudewijn Zenden the provider on both occasions. Martyn Waghorn replaced Welbeck on 63 minutes.

  1. BKB Says:

Well done Dioufy. We’ll get a whopping transfer fee for him if he keeps going at this rate.

I always knew he had quality, you could tell from his YouTube compilations alone that he was an excellent finisher who scored all types of goals and his appearances for the reserves confirmed it. His shocking display in that fifteen minute cameo away to Wolves has given United fans the wrong impression of him.

That said, I don’t think he has anywhere near the ability of Kiko, Welbeck of Chicharito so I don’t see a future for him at United. I’d prefer him to Michael Owen though, naturally.

  2. Dan Morgan Says:

While I’m happy for Diouf, I honestly don’t think he’s United material. Even if he has a fantastic season, where will he be in the pecking order with Rooney, Berba, hernandez and Owen. SAF has said Macheda is the best finisher in 1 v 1 situations.

I guess if owen leaves at the end of the season, he’d be the 5th choice striker, but will he be happy with that?

BKB – not sure about Welbeck to be honest. Seems to have potential, all around good qualities like pace, finishing and touch, but can’t see him getting into the United team either.

  3. Da DW Says:

can’t say I’m overly impressed, but scoring a hat-trick will do his confidence a world of good. Hopefully he can kick on. Still not United material though.
