United sign 16 year-old Dutch starlet
A left-footed, left-sided winger? Yes please!
Several weeks ago, rumours surfaced on internet boards that Manchester United were on the verge of signing Dutch winger Gyliano van Velzen. No official announcement was made, but reports in the Netherlands today revealed that the transfer has been completed.
The player then basically shared on twitter that he was with United and Manchester United have now confirmed that they have signed the player, although an announcement has yet to be made.
Van Velzen looks a giant at the tender age of 16 and is a left-footed, left-sided winger, which is a rare commodity these days. He is a product of the legendary Ajax academy and only turned 16 on the 14th of March.
I wish the lad well and hope to see him do well in the academy.

Who cares if someone on an Ajax forum said there was a better winger there? Obviously our scouts saw something they liked. United have not always had the best players in each position but have achieved so much. it’s a question of attitude and ability.
Also maybe the other lad wasn’t ready to move, so too bad for him. this van Velzen kid wanted to play for United. that ranks highly with me.
the lad looks massive and has long limbs. he can also cross with the left foot.

@raymond – if anything the boy’s even bigger now. he was 14 then, must be massive lanky giraffe by now. danny wellbeck is 19 and sir alex said he had growth spurt last season, so this boy could get bigger yet. it’ll be very tough for opponents to get the ball off him when they close him down. if they tackle, he’ll use his tricks to keep the ball and then he’s off. if they close him down he can shield the ball away from them.

welcome to Manchester United!

Looks good with the ball (dribbling) and finishing, but crosses are his achilles. Looks like a good prospect yet

The guy is goood…. just like ronaldo at 17 years… but needs more pace and build

I think we have got our own Gael Kakuta. This guy is a trickstar. Although its not enough but looking at his close control on the ball I think he has a future at MANU.

I doubt it Jeet as kakuta is not that good. and its Manchester United, MUFC, ManUtd, Man Utd, Man United or Manchester – not Manu, Man U, manure – get it right. we are Manchester, we are United, we are Manchester United. the biggest club in football.

Not much we can say based on these clips, good player at his age level in 2008, partly because of his physique. Looks as if he has the frame for a more central position rather than on the wing. Remember United sign a lot of foreign players at this age.

He’s a terrific left gifted young lad.He can add more spice 2 united!!

Dan Morgan, the point is what if our guy turns out to be a Ryan Babel and the other guy turns out to be a Johan Cruyff?

I’ve been watching football for a long time and have a more philosophical approach. sometimes you miss out on a player it happens. and sometimes you get THE player, but he’s not meant for the club and sometimes you get the right player and it works out like magic.
Forlan, Pique, Rooney. Richardson, Rossi, Giggs. It happens it football. At other clubs too. Maybe the other winger becomes the next so and so? So what? Who cares? Maybe scouts see things differently as people on an Ajax forum? Maybe they saw what they saw, but the kid didn’t want to move and wanted to stay in Holland? Who cares? van velzen was the kid who joined us, so support him. and forget the what ifs.
