Absolutely no truth in Özil rumours…… yet

30/07/10 6:21 PM

Rumours attributed to German tabloids and magazines are fabricated

This is just a blog post to highlight the rumour-mongering that goes on during the transfer season. Several websites have published that Manchester united are about to table a bid for Mesut Özil, but this is simply not true.

The latest article on Kicker’s website is from the 18th of July – 12 days ago – and sporting director, Klaus Alofs, admitted there have been no bids so far.  This doesn’t mean that there won’t be a bid from Manchester United, but the reports that Kicker has stated that Manchester Untied are about to bid for the player are a complete fabrication.

The article on Kicker can be found here

In it Alofs says: “We did not find a solution during our discussions. There were times during the negotiations where we were on a good path, but in the end we didn’t manage to close the gaps financially.” He goes on to state “When we receive a concrete offer, we have the responsibility to consider it, if it is the wish of Mesut and his advisor.” That is a clear indication that no bid has been received yet.

Alofs also rejected reports by Spanish paper AS stating the Madrid had tabled a bid: “I have heard that the newspaper have reported that, but we have not received an offer”.

The only time Manchester United are mentioned is near the end of the article where kicker.de writes “Manchester United are believed to be interested in signing the 21 year-old”.

So fellow United fans, please treat the Özil rumours thus far with caution. They are total fabrications. Even the mother of all German tabloids, Bild, do not claim that United are about to bid for the player. Maybe united will buy him, but my point is that the quotes attributed to kicker.de and unnamed German tabloids are false.

Och dont be such a killjoy with these links.
Facts like this are not necessary.lol
I tell you this though if we miss signing Ozil we will have spurned a great chance to not only reclaim our Premiership trophy with ease.
More importantly give ourselves a fighting chance to go far in Europe.
Since when have United supporters been Bi lingual.lol.
Particularly in the fine art of German.Guten Tag.

  3. Zae Says:

There’s one thing though: Kicker is actually an offline magazine as well, so it’s possible that something’s been published in the magazine but not online. Slight chance but hey, who knows? :D

  4. RedForceRising Says:

    I know ….facts are such a wet blanket. ;-)
Who kow, maybe ManUtd will sign Özil, but I just wanted to put a stop to the rumours, because they quote kicker.de and they didn’t publish anything of the sort.
You are right, Özil represents value, something which fergie says doesn’t exist. Personally I think Khedira would suit United more – a lot of fans just didn’t pay attention to him during the WC – but actually he is a mid whom fergie would appreciate.
Özil is talented, but needs to work on his consistency and stamina. Still, he could really help unlock some stubborn defences. Has bags of natural talent.
    My dad’s German ;-)

lol.Glad you got my sense of humour.
Here here there is a rush of stories regarding him over the net just now.
The most recent I just read was on Tribal football that a bid was being prepared so thats it all sorted then.lol
No seriously I see him as a fantastic opportunity a player at that price you can only Win Win with.
Will bring us creativity in the midfield and probably the much needed goals to help support Wayne.
He is most certainly the type of player we need to takeover from Paul.
I seriously will be having my doubts about money availiable if we dont go for him or as you say Khedira although the Fascists are his main suitor I believe.
Cheers keep up the good work. Guten Tag.

There’s a certain blog, which I won’t name… okay its United-Latest.com, which is going well overboard with the Özil rumours, presumably to generate traffic. This is the same blog who claimed to have “inside sources” who confirmed that Joe Cole would soon be unveiled as a United player!

It’s fun to speculate, but it’s not cool to get people’s hopes up with false information about potential signings. (I’m talking about Özil here, not Joe sodding Cole!)

  7. UnitedLatest Says:

Yes, people inside the club told us that Joe Cole was a possible target. Sir Alex and David Gill spoke with him, but like the Guardian and Daily Mail said – his wage demands were too high, otherwise he was most likely a Manchester United player.

We do not make anything up, and never have. We have enough traffic as it is, and posting false rumours or claim won’t boost site traffic – instead it would devalue our credibility. We apologise if you or anyone else is upset over Cole’s transfer to Liverpool, but we CLEARLY stated it was speculation and NOT a definite deal.

On the other hand, Mesut Ozil is odds-on to sign on at Old Trafford. The Daily Mail, MEN and MANUTD.COM report on Sir Alex lining-up a bid for the German playmaker. Personally, Barca are bankrupt, Real now have Sami Khedira, Arsenal like younger players (16, 17, 18, 19), Chelski are after Benfica midfielder Ramires and Spurs are too small. I, not my blog, think we have Ozil in the bag.

Great site by the way !

  8. RedForceRising Says:

    Hi,

Thanks for the comment. As I understand it manutd.com simply reported what the papers are saying and as a transfer speculation.

I don’t have anything against Mesut Oezil joining UNited, although I’d rather have van der Vaart. I just wanted to clarify that most sites are saying that kicker.de and German tabloids have said United are about to table a bid, but they haven’t.

Of course the powers at United should be considering Mesut Oezil. He has great talent at an affordable price. For the record, I hope the rumours turn out to be true, but at the moment they are quoting a non-existent source, apparently started asa wiki hoax.

By the way, the blog is very simple at the moment, but I hope to spruce it up soon. ;)

United-Laest replied: “We apologise if you or anyone else is upset over Cole’s transfer to Liverpool”

Comprehension is obviously not one of your strong points, or perhaps you’re just being condescending and duplicitous, like so many of your articles. I never wanted Joe Cole at United, which is more rthan can be said for you judging by how many articles you wrote about his impending transfer to us!

I didn’t want to embarrass you but with your patronising attitude you’ve left me no option.

    http://www.united-latest.com/1/post/2010/06/joe-cole-signs-3-year-manchester-united-deal.html

“Joe Cole will soon completed a 3-year deal with Manchester United, after turning down a similar offer from Arsenal this week. United Latest understands that the 28-year-old England International is ready to sign for United, after Chelsea released the midfielder. Cole will stay at Old Trafford until at least 2013, earning about £100,000 per week…”

“Conflicting reports from The Guardian have also sparked some confusion, however we believe Cole is still set to sign…”

What was it you were saying? “we CLEARLY stated it was speculation and NOT a definite deal.”

Jaysus I have seen it all now.
Having a debate on someone’s blog relating to articles on another blog.Thats stretching the lines of communication.
Am I reading between the lines correctly Charlie are you banned from
    the United Latest Blog.? lol.
I cant waste anymore time on this must go and look at my Beer mats and have a look at my train set.
Joe Cole is done mate, let him rot at Liverpool.
Was never United class check out his goal return per game its very weak and so is his body.
He will spend more time on the Fitness bench than on proper Game time.

  11. robson Says:

This is the player Utd should go for imo.. AFELLAY. Like Ozil he has just 1 year left at PSV and UTD can get him for £7m-£10m. This kid has great passing, dribbling and shooting ability, skill, pace, and is incredibly versatile.

His game is so well suited to Utd, skilful, dynamic and intelligent. He’s the perfect replacement for Scholes imo. Afellay has excellent technique and is a very creative attacking force through the middle or out wide, he can play as an attacking central midfield playmaker, second striker or on both wings. Knows when to keep the ball and when to drive forward with dribbles. Plays quick one-twos and has great off the ball movement. Only 24 but has years of title winning and Champions League experience under his belt. Would be an absolute steal for Utd & at little cost.

Arsenal weigh up swoop for Dutch midfielder Afellay:

Oi, RedScot: I DID NOT WANT JOE COLE AT UNITED. HOW LOUD DO I HAVE TO SHOUT IT? My point was that United-Latest is the chief rumour-mongering United blog, as proved by the Joe Cole article I posted, also their incessant Balotelli articles. RFR is too polite to mention them by name but I’ll wager United-Latest is exactly the kind of blog he had in mind when he wrote this spot-on article.
