Are the Glazers facing a season ticket revolt?

21/04/10 12:14 PM

United’s official website asks fans to join waiting list

Manchester United’s official website have put up an ad asking fans to “join the season ticket waiting list now”, which would indicate to me that the club are having difficulties to get current ticket holders to renew their subscriptions for next season.

Several ticket holders have mentioned on various internet forums that the once famous Manchester United waiting list no longer exists, with former season ticket holders claiming that  the club had contacted them at the end of last season and tried to convince them to re-consider their decision not to renew.

To me it just doesn’t make sense to ask fans to join a waiting list.

It either means the Glazers already know that there will be a lot of people not renewing or want to steel themselves for the impending loss of renewals. Either way, it is an indication that a) the current waiting list is not very long or even non-existent and b) many Old Trafford faithful have finally had enough and are not going to renew their season tickets to show their unhappiness with the Glazer ownership.

This advert shows that the Green and Gold campaign, as well as the efforts of the Manchester United Supporters’ Trust is gaining momentum. It is also an indication of how unhappy the supporters are with the Glazers. So unhappy, that they would choose not to attend matches at the Theatre of Dreams for the long-term benefit of the club they love.

It cannot be an easy decision to make and whether their decision not to renew is correct is debatable, but I salute these fans’ courage, as well as determination. I think they are fighting for the soul of the club.

Oh is this not delightful. Happiness all around that some publicity seeking City fat cats have managed to pull together a bunch of unhappy supporters and plunge a knife into our clubs heart. OH well done what a bunch of losers. They do not get their way so lets destroy it for everyone else. pathetic stupid children. I do not like the Glazers because of their lack of communication however I HATE the green and gold brigade even more.

  2. Collin Says:

Let me guess Robert, You’re from Essex, and spend a fortune in the megastore everytime you pop up here for a game..

“Oh no, the bad G&G people won’t let me enjoy my pie and bud at half time…”

As long as there are apathetic fans like you who don’t live this debt ridden crisis that everyday fans do, then we’ll never get shot of those gimps…

  3. Franco Mizzi Says:

This G & G Campaign has undermined our entire season in fact it is stupid as the Red Knights will only leave us in the same position. Even worse as instead of one owner we will have how many? I lost count now and we are to believe that these business people are doing this for the love of the club, well bullocks. I will never buy that and most don’t. It is only the fact that the Glaziers happen to be Yanks. Get real and leave people like David Gill do his job. The debt is unfortunate and something should have been done before as I don’t believe leveraged buy outs should be allowed in football. The so called Red Knights and the rest of MUST should have tried to stop it before and they had the chance when we where a PLC. But hey everyone, Red Knights and MUST supporters sold their shares to the Glaziers and now you have the audacity to champion The so called Red Knights. The main guy, forgot his name, who is putting this campaign forward will make God knows how many millions if this went through but hey he is an English crook so that’s ok.

    Come on you Reds.

We’re definitely between a rock and a hard place aren’t we?
I agree with Franco Mizzi that MUST are not covering themselves in glory. neither are the fans who had previously sold their shares and now support the Red Knights. Leveraged buy-outs should definitely not be allowed, because football clubs are not just companies, but are important to the scoial fabric of a city and by extension its supporters worldwide.

However, the Glazers have really done a poor job of repaying the debt. On one side, United have more tie-ups with companies now. telcos from every region, watchmakers and airlines, but they’ve also made an utter mess of repaying their PIKs and through the prospectus which accompanied the bonds, we know that they are going to use the club to not only pay the PIKs, but also pay themselves management fees, consultancy fees etc etc. they’re not just making money from us. they are bleeding United dry.
It’s safe to say that without the Glazers, Manchester United would probably be 1 Billion pounds better off by 2017. How’s that going to benefit the club on and off the pitch?

  5. Franco Mizzi Says:

The Glaziers are a nightmare we all agree about that but I believe that we should be patient here as a wrong move now will cost us much more. The Glaziers are not stupid either and they are well aware that they have to find the money to freshen up the team. Hey listen I’m not a numbers man but neither are the vast majority of fans but what I’m almost sure about is if there was no milk in the cow The Red Knights would have not been interested as they are like the Glaziers are business men only English & not American. The fact is that in todays game you do need business people to run things as football is not the game it once was. It is now mega business. We have to accept that.

Come on you Reds. Lets stick together & win the title a 19th time.
