Red Devils sign defender after impressing in Milk Cup

United have confirmed the arrival of 16-year-old Italian defender Michele Fornasier. He’ll join the Reds’ Under-18s squad with the rest of the first-year Academy scholars.

The transfer has been completed amidst some furor as FIFA confirmed earlier this month that they had been contacted by his Italian club, Fiorentina, about making a complaint against the English champions.

Italian clubs are only allowed to sign players on their 16th birthday and so Fiorentina were unable to secure Fornasier to a binding contract prior to United’s move and, and as such, the validity of their complaint to Fifa remain unclear.
